Price: $4 to $40
The prices of these specimens are all over the map depending on quality. The quality has to do with how red the crystals are, how large they are, how many of them are on the matrix, possible associations and if the crystals have an attractive contrast with the matrix. Individual fine vanadinites have been sold for more than $50,000 each. We do not have any of that quality for sale.Red crystals of vanadinite on a matrix of bladed barite crystals. These specimens are collected from the now closed lead mines near the little village of Mibladen near Midelt, Morocco. Sometimes the barite crystals are white and others are brown and even black looking.
The miners who collect these specimens used to work in the mines when they were being comercially worked for lead ore. Each year the specimens get harder to get as the miners work the specimen producing veins deeper into the rock.
